In 1908 a group of Rondebosch Old Boys played the first Old Boys vs school boys rugby match. The matches have become an important Rondebosch tradition and on Tuesday 19 August the annual Old Boys rugby, hockey and squash matches will be a celebration of that first match 100 years ago.
After the First XV match on Tuesday Old Boys, coaches, staff and parents are invited to an informal function in the E1942 Centenary Pavilion starting at about 17h15.
The hockey matches will be played on the Astroturf which Rondebosch shares with WPCC and the hockey players are also encouraged to come down to the pavilion after their matches.

Music achievements
One of the school band members, Nick Hurworth, recently competed at auditions with other musicians from across South Africa for one of the positions available for the Alto Sax in the National Schools’ Band. Nick was selected as the Lead Alto Sax player - in a Big Band this is effectively the band leader and the position requires the highest level of musical skills in the band.
Michael Duffett (Grade 11) won the Strings Category at the Lubner National Music Competition at Wits University, Johannesburg, which is open to under 25 year olds. Michael was the only school going entrant in the strings category, the remainder being from various South African Universities. At the Cape Town Eisteddfod Michael won the awards for Most outstanding strings player, Best all round strings player, Most promising strings player, Best violinist (13-18 years), Best strings recital (16 years and over), Best strings concerto and the Ian Burgess trophy for best performance of a contemporary piano composition.
Michael has also been invited to perform as a soloist with Johannesburg Philharmonic in September and at the National Concerto Festival in Durban with the Kwazulu Natal Orchestra in October.
Congratulations to Nick and Michael.

Photographs and video of Rondebosch events
The Old Boys’ Union is compiling a DVD about Rondebosch as part of the Centenary celebrations during 2009. Many photographs are already available in the Union's archives in the Honours Room and we are appealing to Old Boys to donate film footage of RBPS or RBHS events which could possibly be used on the DVD and then stored in the archives for the benefit of future generations of boys and Old Boys.
Film footage on video tape, CD or DVD may be posted to PO Box 731 Rondebosch 7701 or delivered to 25 Lochiel Road Rondebosch, or to the High School reception (clearly marked for the Old Boys' Union). The Union will also welcome any further photographs and any other Rondebosch memorabilia such as ties marking occasions or events such as sports or cultural tours, commemorative mugs and trophies. These will be stored in the Honours Room.
